On May 15, 2024, the world lost a remarkable educator and beloved individual, Anna Mae Reid. Anna’s journey began on July 26, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, and peacefully concluded in Augusta, Georgia. Anna’s passion for education shone brightly throughout her 36-year career within the Richmond County School systems in Augusta, Georgia. From her early days as a classroom teacher to her pivotal roles as an instructional specialist, assistant principal, and eventually principal, Anna’s dedication to shaping young minds left an indelible mark on the community she served. Her educational journey was marked by significant milestones, including graduating from Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA. She furthered her academic pursuits by earning a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Anna’s commitment to excellence propelled her to achieve a Master of Arts in elementary education from Augusta State University and an Educational Specialist degree in administration and supervision from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC. Anna Mae Reid’s proudest accomplishments extended beyond academia. In 2006, she was honored with the Principal of the Year award from both the local and state Parent-Teacher Association for her outstanding contributions to the field of education. Additionally, her involvement in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, INC., the Retired Education Association, and the Women’s Ministry of Trinity CME Church exemplified her dedication to community service and spiritual fulfillment. While Anna’s professional achievements were significant, she will be most fondly remembered for the love and warmth she shared with those around her. As a mother, Nana, Aunt, sister, and friend, she leaves behind a legacy defined by unwavering love, boundless kindness, and cherished memories that will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew her. Anna Mae Reid is survived by her loving son Marcus Reid, devoted daughter Katrina (Jose) Quinones, cherished granddaughter Jayla Hightower and grandsons Marcus Reid II and Jose Quinones IV. She is also survived by her sister Mamie Conway. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Charlie A. Reid, Jr.; parents Robert and Ella Mae Peterson; sisters, Flora King and Roberta Daniels and brother, Robert Peterson, Jr. Anna Mae Reid will be deeply missed but never forgotten—a beacon of light whose impact will continue to inspire generations to come. |
