Born: 14 October 1988
Passed On: 2 May 2012
Legacy: 2nd Lt. David Edward Rylander loved God, his country, his family, friends and others.
He had a warm smile and did his best to make everyone feel welcome. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never shied away from hard work. He enjoyed being outdoors and having bonfires in the backyard. He was an Eagle Scout, accomplished pianist, loved to golf, play a pick-up game of basketball and swim. He was the oldest of four siblings having two brothers, Daniel and Stephen, and one sister, Sarah. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in May, 2011.
David was an avid reader and especially loved reading his Bible. His favorite verses were Psalm 23 and Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” He was born on October 14, 1988, and killed in Afghanistan on May 2, 2012. “And when our work is done, our course on earth is run, May it be said, “Well done, be thou at peace.” (from the West Point Alma Mater). David was 23 years old when he died but, he lived the West Point motto: “Duty, Honor, Country”. He was dearly loved and is greatly missed. Freedom isn’t free.
David was the first Cadet I ever met and it was him who truly got me excited to go to West Point. He will never be forgotten. Be thou at peace.
